Romulus, My Father

Romulus, My Father is based on Raimond Gaita's critically acclaimed memoir. It tells the story of Romulus, his beautiful wife, Christina, and their struggle in the face of great adversity to bring up their son, Raimond.

It is the tale of a boy trying to balance a universe described by his deeply moral father, against the experience of heartbreaking absence and neglect from a depressive mother. It is, ultimately, a story of impossible love that celebrates the unbreakable bond between father and son.

Director: Richard Roxburgh

Cast: Eric Bana (MUNICH, THE TIME TRAVELLER'S WIFE), Franka Potente (RUN LOLA RUN, THE BOURNE IDENTITY), Martin Csokas (LORD OF THE RINGS, THE BOURNE SUPREMACY)

September

The inaugural project in the newly established Tropfest Feature Program, September is a tender story of friendship and loyalty between two boys on the cusp of adulthood.

September is a humane, cinematic and intricately drawn coming-of-age story - a visually stunning character film about two 16 year old boys, one black, one white, whose pure and unaffected friendship begins to fall apart against the backdrop of a turbulent and pivotal moment in Australia's past.

Set in Western Australia in 1968, Ed and Paddy have been best friends for as long as they can remember, having grown up together on Ed's family farm. They spend their afternoons together being boys; laughing, reading, smoking and then building their own make-shift boxing ring in the wheat fields where they spar each day and dream of future glories.

But Ed is white and Paddy is Aboriginal and the changing social and political climate threatens to fracture what was a rock-solid friendship.

Director: Peter Castairs

Cast: Xavier Samuel, Clarence John Ryan

(POST PRODUCTION)

Surveillance

What if nothing is as it seems? What if the murderers are the ones you trust... waiting for the kill.

Somewhere deep inside the Santa Fe desert there have been a number of blood curdling murders... a real killing spree.

The local police station is in disarray. Captain Billings, Officers Degrasso and Wright have apprehended three witnesses: Officer Jack Bennet, one of their own, tough, but affected by recent events; Bobby, young, high as a kite on cocaine; and Stephanie, eight years old, who has just witnessed her family being brutally murdered by two figures dressed in jumpsuits, gloves, boots, and horrifyingly disfiguring blue latex masks. Even though everyone is ready to go, they are still waiting... waiting for the Feds to arrive.

As the witnesses tell their stories one by one to the FBI agents who have now taken over, the murderous events unravel before our eyes. It becomes clear, little Stephanie knows something more about the agents, Hallaway and Anderson. And then two more bodies have been found...

Director: Jennifer Lynch (BOXING HELENA)

THE BANK JOB
(POST PRODUCTION)

The Bank Job

From acclaimed Director Roger Donaldson and based on the true story of the now legendary 1971 Baker Street bank robbery, this is a story which has remained untold for over 35 years due to a government gagging order.

THE BANK JOB tells how one of the biggest robberies in British history took place with no arrests ever made, nor money ever recovered. It also tells the story of a vault full of secrets, the scandals that unfurled and the lives lost in the pursuit for the truth to stay 'hidden'.

In the tradition of classic British crime sagas such as SEXY BEAST and THE LONG GOOD FRIDAY, and with a gutsy performance from international superstar Jason Statham (LOCK, STOCK & TWO SMOKING BARRELS, SNATCH, TRANSPORTER 1 & 2) the long whispered and rumored truth of what really happened on Baker Street can now be told.

Director: Roger Donaldson

Cast: Jason Statham, Saffron Burrows (TROY, DEEP BLUE SEA)

US Release: Lionsgate Films
