THE TEN
(COMPLETED - PREMIERE SCREENING)

The Ten

David Wain (Wet Hot American Summer) presents ten hysterical stories inspired by the Biblical Commandments. Each is told in its own style, with characters and themes that overlap between stories.

The narrator (Paul Rudd) who has his own moral problems with two different women (Famke Janssen and Jessica Alba) in his life, gives the guidelines to each section of the film while asking the audience which woman is right for him? These hilarious stories feature a careless skydiver (Adam Brody) who becomes an accidental superstar, a doctor (co-writer Ken Marino) who kills patients as a "goof", two neighbors who compete over who can amass the most CAT-scan machines, and a woman (Winona Ryder) who falls for all the wrong men, including a ventriloquist's dummy. Finally, everyone is united at the end for a rousing finale that answers the question, "What's it all about?"

Director David Wain (Wet Hot American Summer) returns with a multilayered ensemble comedy featuring an all-cast including regulars from the television series, The State and Stella to bring together a daring comedy of biblical proportions.

BROOKLYN RULES
(COMPLETED - PREMIERE SCREENING)

17 May, 14:00, Riveria 2
18 May, 11:30, Star 4

Brooklyn Rules

Written by three-time Emmy winner Terence Winter (The Sopranos), Brooklyn Rules is a powerful story of loyalty, friendship, and sacrifice. Set in Brooklyn circa 1985 against the backdrop of John Gotti's rise to power, the film revolves around three lifelong friends whose different ambitions threaten to shake their enduring bond.

Michael (Freddie Prinze Jr.), the narrator, is a lovable charmer with the soul of a con man who successfully scams his way into the pre-law program at Columbia University. In contrast to Michael's desire to leave the Brooklyn streets behind, his close friend Carmine (Scott Caan), a handsome lady-killer enamored of the Mafia lifestyle, wants nothing more than to stay there. Rounding out the trio is Bobby (Entourage's Jerry Ferrara), an endearing cheapskate who longs for a simple life of working at the Post Office and settling down with his fiancee.

While at Columbia, Michael falls for a beautiful young student named Ellen (Mena Suvari), a society girl whom he initially wins over with his preppy schoolboy cover. As their relationship blossoms, leaving the streets behind seems increasingly possible, but when Carmine catches the eye of Caesar (Alec Baldwin), a feared mobster who controls their Brooklyn neighborhood, Michael and Bobby are drawn into that world despite their reluctance to get involved.

Director: Michael Corrente

Cast: Alec Baldwin, Freddie Prinze Jr., Scott Caan, Mena Suvari, Jerry Ferrara
BRODIE'S LAW

Brodie's Law

From the mind of Renny Harlin, director of DIE HARD 2 and LONG KISS GOODNIGHT, comes a $35million action spectacular in the style of current blockbusters 300 and SIN CITY.

Brodie discovers that the heist was a setup; his wife has been killed and his son kidnapped. Fueled by revenge, and with the help of an alluring researcher, Brodie unlocks the secret of formula PM13. He infects himself with the formula, gaining the ability to absorb human DNA and take on the physical form and mind of whoever he touches.

In his desperate search for answers, Brodie becomes the very man who killed his wife and then a sultry dominatrix who lusts after the local crime boss.v Before losing his own identity to these transformations, Brodie must confront the man behind this elaborate plot, rescue his son and save his own sanity.

DESCENT
(COMPLETED - PREMIERE SCREENING)

17 May, 15:30, Gray 2
23 May 16:00, Rivera 2

Descent

A tale of innocence shattered, dreams destroyed and vengeance fulfilled, Descent begins with an idealistic vision of college sweethearts and wild house parties, but quickly falls apart when a date rape sends a co-ed into a spiral of drugs, rage and despair.

Maya (Rosario Dawson - RENT, GRINDHOUSE) is a promising student, identified by her professor as top of her class. When she meets Jared (Chad Faust) at a party, she's disgusted by the frat-boy mentality and the boys hitting on her friend. Maya's quick to mock Jared's pick-up lines and shrugs off his insinuations. But he persists, and she gives him a chance by handing over her phone number. Jared later violently attacks her, both physically and psychologically, shattering her notions of a perfect life and sending her reeling into a state of depression.

Maya soon floats into a circle of promiscuous drug users, abandoning the idealistic life she once sought for a world of hedonism and escape, until one day she finds herself face to face with the boy who stole everything from her. Offered a chance at the last word, Maya's grappling with the fear Jared instilled in her and her determination to avenge that pain culminates in a decision that will change them both forever.

SURVEILLANCE
(IN PRODUCTION)

Surveillance

What if nothing is as it seems? What if the murderers are amidst you? Waiting for the kill.

Somewhere deep inside the Santa Fe desert there have been a number of blood curdling murders... a real killing spree.

The local police station is in disarray. Captain Billings, Officers Degrasso and Wright have apprehended three witnesses: Officer Jack Bennet, one of their own, tough, but affected by recent events; Bobby, young, high as a kite on cocaine; and Stephanie, eight years old, who has just witnessed her family being brutally murdered by two figures dressed in jumpsuits, gloves, boots, and horrifyingly disfiguring blue latex masks. Even though everyone is ready to go, they are still waiting... waiting for the Feds to arrive.

As always, the FBI has come to take over the case, interrogate the witnesses, steal the thunder.

As the witnesses tell their stories, the murderous events unravel before our eyes. It becomes clear, little Stephanie knows something, something about the agents Hallaway and Anderson.

Two more bodies have been found. Agent Anderson takes officers Wright and Degrasso with her to inspect the crime scene. Anderson watches Degrasso closely, as he sits in the back of the sedan, looking at the pictures lying around: dead bodies, grotesque murders, atrocities... slowly, the truth dawns on him, he looks up, straight into Anderson's eyes: He is a dead man.

Anderson returns to her partner at the police station. Sexually aroused and excited, the two killers kiss in front of their witnesses, relishing the murders that await them...

18 May, 16:00, Palais I

Shamo

Director Soi Cheang's follow up to DOG BITE DOG, SHAMO tells the story of the psychotic anti-hero Ryo, and his rise through the brutal world of competition fighting.

After barbarically slaughtering his parents, 16 year old Ryo is sent to a prison for boys. Continually tortured by his fellow inmates, Ryo takes up karate training after a savage beating leaves him for dead. Returned to society after 3 years, Ryo catches the attention of the local triads for his natural ferocity and dedication to destruction. Convinced to enter underground, no rules fighting tournaments, Ryo easily demolishes the competition. Seemingly unstoppable, Ryo's inevitable confrontation with champion Sugawara may be his only chance for respect by the society that has so completely rejected him.

Vicious, uncompromising and raw, SHAMO is the razor's edge of extreme Asian cinema.
