This epic feature is based on Romance of the Three Kingdoms, a vast 600-year-old novel by Luo Guangzhong which ranks as one of China's four most important pieces of literature.
His country torn asunder by civil war, Zhao, a common man heeds the call of duty and from the humblest of roots rises through the ranks on wings of courage and cunning to command an army charged with liberating the land from an evil warlord.
Inspiring by action, honor and a dream of unifying his divided nation, Zhao's heroism becomes legend, but as the years pass and the throne changes hands the war still rages on. When a newly enthroned king decides peace can only be achieved by defeating the warlords once and for all, the ageing Zhao embarks on his final and greatest campaign, a road to adventure that will crown his name in glory for all time.

Director Soi Cheang's follow up to DOG BITE DOG, SHAMO tells the story of the psychotic anti-hero Ryo, and his rise through the brutal world of competition fighting.
After barbarically slaughtering his parents, 16 year old Ryo is sent to a prison for boys. Continually tortured by his fellow inmates, Ryo takes up karate training after a savage beating leaves him for dead. Returned to society after 3 years, Ryo catches the attention of the local triads for his natural ferocity and dedication to destruction. Convinced to enter underground, no rules fighting tournaments, Ryo easily demolishes the competition. Seemingly unstoppable, Ryo's inevitable confrontation with champion Sugawara may be his only chance for respect by the society that has so completely rejected him.

Liam (Ken Leung) is a struggling actor wasting his time picking up beautiful, plastic girls in hip Hollywood bars with his buddy, Joe (Joel David Moore). The closest thing to an emotional connection in Liam's life is a flirtatious friendship with 16 year old Adelaide (Hayden Panettiere), a precocious high school girl who is actually more mature than Liam.
When Liam learns he has inherited his grandmother's home in Shanghai, he travels to the exotic city to connect with his ancestry and start a new life. He meets a sophisticated Chinese woman named Micki (Kelly Hu) and finds himself falling into instant infatuation with her. Liam decides to move to China, leaving behind Adelaide who is quite possibly the only girl who has ever loved him, but running away from his problems only lands him in deeper trouble.

A Japanese detective investigates two mysterious suicides, somehow connected as the two victims dialed "0" on their mobiles moments before their death. The detective comes to learn of a man who has the supposed ability to manipulate people's dreams, and if the case is going to be solved, the detective succumbs to the realization that she must dial the mysterious "0" herself...
