'Dance of the Dragon' sweeps all major awards at the West Hollywood International Film Festival '08

Easternlight Films is proud to announce that the 100% Singapore production DANCE OF THE DRAGON has swept all major awards at The West Hollywood International Film Festival '08, which took place in Los Angeles, USA (29th July - 1st August 2008).

The film competed against 141 selected international entries at the festival and won a record 10 awards in all major categories, including the Best Festival Movie Award.

DANCE OF THE DRAGON was awarded for Best Festival Movie, Best Cinematography, Best Director (John Radel), Best Actor (Jang Hyuk), Best Actress (Fann Wong), Best Supporting Actress (Young Mi-Lee), Best Production Design, Best Editing, Best Original Music Score and the Special Mention Jury Award.

DANCE OF THE DRAGON will screen in competition at the 12th Annual Rhode Island International Film Festival in Providence, Rhode Island USA (5th - 10th August). The film, which was earlier honored with a 'selected for early acceptance' status by the judges of the festival, is fittingly scheduled to screen at the Columbus Arts Centre Andrews Theatre on Sat 9th August, Singapore's National Day, at 9.15pm.

The film then premieres shortly after at The 2008 Rome International Film Festival on Sunday 7th September, 11am at The Heritage Hall, where it has also been nominated for Best Picture (final 5) - results on the night of Sun 7th September at the closing ceremony.

The producers have also just been notified that DANCE OF THE DRAGON has been selected for The 14th Annual Temecula Valley International Film Festival, USA (17th - 21st September 2008), and The 9th Annual San Diego Asian Film Festival, USA (9th - 16th October 2008).

On the regional distribution front, DANCE OF THE DRAGON will make its debut in Malaysia and opens across the country on Thursday, 4th September '08.

DANCE OF THE DRAGON - starring Korean heartthrob Jang Hyuk, Singapore's Fann Wong and Hollywood's Jason Scott Lee - is an inspiring love story set amidst other tender and multi-dimensional relationships. It is an exquisite tale of love, passion, courage and hope, with the demanding and visually stunning disciplines of ballroom dancing and martial arts woven as backdrops into the plot.

Produced and shot entirely in Singapore, the film was supported by the Film in Singapore! Scheme - a Singapore Tourism Board (STB) initiative to encourage leading filmmakers and television producers worldwide to film and produce quality movies and television programs locally, in order to increase top-of-mind recall of Singapore as a destination among the global audience.

The film has been garnering international sales and industry attention since its market screening at Cannes in May earlier this year, and then at the Shanghai International Film Festival in July. The multiple awards and accolades it has just received from Hollywood has further secured its reputation as a highly entertaining quality production, and will certainly boost negotiations currently taking place for the film to be distributed across Asia, Europe and the US.
