After a fierce gun battle, Maxwell kills the client and wounds Ridley. This traumatic event haunts Ridley, destroys his reputation, and causes him to retire from the bodyguard business.
Years later, Ridley's old boss, Mark Graver, offers him a very special assignment. A mystery client residing in Barcelona, Spain has requested Ridley's services. At first, Ridley flatly refuses, but after some serious soul-searching, he decides to get his life back together and takes the job.
Ridley flies to Spain and meets the mystery client… none other than Lee Maxwell, the man who ruined his life! Needless to say, Ridley almost kills Maxwell on the spot. Confronting Graver, Ridley demands to know why would his worst enemy would want his protection? Graver explains that Maxwell has offered to testify against his former employers in exchange for protection, insisting that only one man in the world is acceptable for the job... the best bodyguard in the world: John Ridley.
Graver assures Ridley that in three days - after Maxwell testifies - Ridley is free to do whatever he wants with Maxwell. Ridley reluctantly agrees to stay on the job, but has to struggle to keep rage in check. When Maxwell's former employers realize he's gone renegade, they hire a team of professional killers to eliminate him, forcing Ridley and Maxwell to go on the run. For three days, the bodyguard and assassin must put their pasts aside, forge an uneasy alliance, and learn to work together as a team.
